About Us and our Mission

Pathogenes is a small research laboratory with large ideas, located in Fairfield, Florida.  We test samples, analyze data, and invent tools to diagnose and treat horses with neurodegenerative diseases including EPM, equine protozoal myeloencephalitis.  You can read about our work, Learn More, or call us at 352-591-3221 and speak to any member of our team. If you call during the week, 9 AM to 4 PM, we will gladly answer your questions and direct you to our published, peer reviewed papers. Dr. Ellison is available for consulting anytime, we only consult on animals that have a medical record with us.  Call with your accession (case) number to facilitate information. She's more than happy to discuss cutting edge research. We can also set up Zoom meetings.

Julie is in daily 9:30 AM to 4 PM.  She can answer questions and get those results out to you quickly.

Dr. Laura Benedetti is our Clinical Trial specialist.  She serves as the liaison for veterinarians and she will help enter horses into the appropriate clinical study.

​

Debbie and Bill keep things in order.  You may occasionally speak to them. They are trained to take your phone number.

 

Valerie is our QA specialist and web master.

TESTS ARE RUN THE DAY WE GET THEM WHEN THEY ARRIVE BY 11:30 PM

 

Lila, the lab dog, left us August 4, 2023. 

We have a new pup in training, Roxy, to accept cookies

from our FedEx driver(delivery at 12 PM), UPS delivery

(delivery at 5 PM), and USPS mail (delivery at 3 PM).  

She's partial to belly rubs and is learning to be a proper

lab dog!  We pick up the PO deliveries at 9 AM, these

samples are set up when they come in, giving you same 

day service.

FDA MUMS
​

In the US, many animal species do not have drugs specifically labeled for them. To ensure their welfare is protected and diseases can be successfully treated MUMS attempts to create an FDA controlled process by which effective treatments are produced. MUMS offers incentives to manufacturers that produce drugs for rare diseases.
